What does it mean to be indie?

I see it as a rebellion to having be subject to record labels. In that sense, it's like punk. Well, indie means "independent".

    REM

They are sort of mainstream now, but no doubt, they were indie in the 80s. Anyway, as with The Smiths and The Pretenders, and honestly speaking, Tom Petty, they were into a jingle-jangly guitar sound.

Elon Musk Criticizes "Work from Home"

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/elon-musk-says-working-from-home-is-morally-wrong/ar-AA1bjA8B He's saying such people unfairly have it easy compared to other workers. Well, there's an element of truth there. Nonetheless, though, not all jobs where you show up are hard. I mean...

How do you all like this recently signed band?

The lead/rhythm guitar player was a schoolmate of mine in high school. How do you all feel about the music? Has anyone heard it on the radio?

    The Smiths

They had a unique sound. in fact, they were one of the most interesting bands of the 80s. Well, they had a sort of jingle jangle guitar thing going, kind of like with REM. Anyway, Morrisey's lyrics are a bit whiny and bratish (not British, lol), but he pulls it off well.

    Blues Drums

Blues drums have the image of being easy to play. This contrasts with playing blues guitar which is considered to be a difficult art. Anyway, suspect saying blues drums is easy is not all accurate. Why might it not be the case?

    Jazz Drums

It is considered the hardest drums to play. Anyone have any idea on why that might be the case? Anyway, a lot of drummers didn't grow up in the jazz age, so it might be tough for them to catch on. Well, I don't think it's that difficult, but I've been studying it since high school, though.

    People Against Grunge

Some people say grunge killed rock. However, a lot of other people equally disliked glam metal/rock. Of course, the beef against glam metal is that it was all about money and chicks and the beef against grunge is that it is too serious.

The Long and Winding Road Controversy

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Long_and_Winding_Road There was a lot of controversy over what was seen as orchestra over-kill. Well, do you find the song annoying? I don't actually. What is "too much", you think?

    Paul McCartney and Wings

His band after the Beatles was something else and also the work, he did in between Wings and the Beatles where it was just his name on it. Who else likes Wings? Well, their music isn't all rock or pop, but seems to have songs in both genres. He did write a lot of sappy love songs, but I...

Songs That Could Do Without the Lyrics

Shiny Happy People has an awesome riff. However, REM could have done without the lyrics. Do you all know more songs like that? Why do you feel that way?

What do you consider a good band name?

Who has a good band name? What are some qualifications for something interesting? What are some band names that you could do without?

Better Vocalist for Van Halen - David or Sammy?

David Lee Roth favored highly sexual lyrics etc. and Sammy Hagar was more into more serious "square" music. Well, David was essential to Van Halen's early music and even suggested the name for the band. On the other hand, would Van Halen ever right any music a bit deeper if not for the 2nd...

    Female Bands You Like

I like Heart's music but, being a guy, it's not about how they look, but that's not saying a lot of men don't like them in that way. Anyway, they are very talented and all their stuff, whether arena rock, pop, hard rock, or folk rock is highly interesting. There isn't anyone like them and...

Do you feel alternative is a term that doesn't mean anything?

It seems like a lot of what is now mainstream was once called alternative. Anyway, when people say alternative, what is it an alternative of? Well, in the late 80s and early 90s, if you weren't into glam metal/rock or U2 or Phil Collins or Guns in Roses, maybe you preferred The Pixies, The...

    Country Music and Drums

Country and Western has some interesting beats. Nonetheless, drums were not always welcome in country. I suppose it was kind of a racist thing to big extent. Now, some music like bluegrass doesn't seem to really need drums at all, but there are bluegrass beats. It was funny when Buddy...

    Reggae Being Associated with Drugs

Reggae isn't always about drugs, and you could say drugs are a big thing in rock and jazz also. Nonetheless, some people will make fun of you and any mention of reggae. Well, it's all good fun, but it's really inaccurate and silly. Reggae is also another untouchable music where Caucasian...

    Reading Music

Who can read music? How well can you read? Do you feel everyone should read music? How does reading music broaden your horizons? Myself, not being a dorky showoff, lol, but I can read music very well, but I took piano lessons in 2nd grade and then studied percussion in high school...

What do you consider to be something very interesting? Why is that the case? How would you compare them to classic rock bands?
