It's very few that prefer WhatsApp to other social media platforms. I can only view status on WhatsApp and then go and read on Facebook.

i dont like social media,im severly classic autistic and speech impaired so cannot verbaly chat with people unless its in person as i comunicate with an ipad pro and an AAC program called proloquo2go...i dislike discord for example and it anoys me that so many computer games now are moving there chat to discord which is heavily reliant on being able to verbaly speak,as you will continusly get asked to go onto mic. same with steam,a lot of people think you dont want to talk to them so your making an excuse,some of us genuinely arent able to speak via mouth.
i liked IRC back in the day,via programs such as Xchat but last time i atempted that, i was bullied and stalked for ages by a very unhinged person.

Facebook is more popular than WhatsApp and has a lot of followers which makes a bit of sense to me as well. That is part of the reasons I think Facebook has more coverage for anyone looking for bigger market.
Facebook can stand far than WhatsApp. Anybody can see your posts on Facebook unlike WhatsApp that it's only those that have your contact that will view what you posted.
WhatsApp is getting bigger with each passing day. It has been having different updates that make it more exciting to use.
The reason why I can go with WhatsApp is if I have lot of contacts that I will be chatting with. If not that, I will always go for Facebook.
I don't make use of Facebook messenger but I chat with friends on Facebook. My chatting is more on WhatsApp if they have my contact.
Before WhatsApp, which one were you making use of for local and international video calls? I was mainly using Skype and Facebook messenger.
