The Weakness of Jazz

Great jazz doesn't need vocals and it is better without. Just as classical concertos don't either. Vocals might hinder or ruin it.

Okay, there are a bunch of different types of jazz. Many have vocals. I highly recommend Billie Holiday if you're curious. A lot of the jazz that doesn't rely on vocals (swing, bebop) is complex and exciting and sophisticated in ways that would be ruined if you switched all of the focus to a singer. That's not weakness. As they say, "It's a feature, not a glitch."
