How do musicians maintain focus during a performance?

I have heard so many rumors about how some musicians have to do drugs or smoke weed before getting on stage to perform. The reason why they do such is because it helps them to maintain focus and not be intimidated by the millions in the crowd.

If this practice is true, it's unorthodox. It's not something that should be encouraged for any reason whatsoever.

Do you know of any other ways artists use to keep focus when they're live on stage?

I wouldn't say that this practice is true for most musicians but it may be something some do to help them perform on stage.

My auntie used to do a lot of performing and she always found meditation the best practice to prepare her for performing.

They can do so by focusing on their performance and not let anything distract them. Some might be distracted by the noise, especially if they are upcoming artists.

But I have seen singers stop their performance and burst into tears because if the cheering and support. That is wonderful though.

While some musicians take drugs or smoke weed for them to be high and face the audience, I know enough practice can boost their performance and help them face the audience.

Well it is true that the more you do something the better you get. So even if it was hard before after a few times it will become easier.

That's true. I remembered when I was once afraid to face the public but doing it consistently, I became relaxed and better. I am doing it effortlessly whenever I am being called.

That is actually the effect of doing something over and over again. You overcome any fear that you might have as you engage in it more.

Fear is one of the fastest killer of the spirit, body and soul. And when you overcome it, 80% of the problem is already solved. If you don't confront fear, it will overcome you.

Some musicians are born with confidence and pride while some build up theirs. People that have natural boost can focus easily when they are performing. But for people that are still afraid to face the crowd while performing might take a high substance that will help them.

Top professional musicians knew what brought them to the stage and they always tend to focus on that instead of letting anything being a form of distractions for them.

Yeah, that's spot on. The top ones stay laser-focused on what got them there and shut out all the distractions. That discipline makes all the difference.

Well if they know that is what they need to do to make some bucks then they have to do it with all seriousness. Concerts make them a lot of money.
