Does a good song need any promotion to gain recognition?

I was discussing with my friends about music promotion, and some were saying that a good and standard song doesn't need any promotion whatsoever. If it was that good, it will promote itself.
Is that correct?

There are many great songs out there that have no breakthrough because the right audience have not listened to them. So yes every song needs to be marketed appropriately.

There are some subtle and not so obvious ways to market a song these days. You can give content creators to use in their contents or give influencers to help you promote.

It depends on the popularity of the artist who produced the new song. If it is someone that is very popular, the song doesn't need so much promotion to be recognized.
