Although this is not a FB page about music legalities, I wonder if someone could give some advice:

In 2021 I wrote a song for a local made film and advertised for a local female singer to sing it. After some auditions I chose one young lady with a - the result was a beautiful ballad. She was happy to have it released with both our names as the artists and agreed to split any royalties. This was all done verbally and she was more than happy to have this song associated with her (as well as a second song). I have messages from that time in which she was happy to be part of this.

Fast forward to a weeek or so ago and out of the blue, she now has a management company and about to release a single in time for Christmas and that she no longer wants her name associated with these two songs as it ‘does not reflect her style’ anymore - yet she was happy to be associated with them all this time when she was doing local weddings etc.

At the end of the day she is the singer on the songs.

Can someone advise where I stand on this please or tell me who or where I can get some good advice?

Many thanks

You say that she ‘doesn’t want her name to be associated with the song’ anymore, would she be ok with you releasing it without putting her as a secondary/collaborative artist.
Hope this goes well!

I hope she split the royalties that came when the song were released? If it's possible to ask her that you need to release it without her as the collaborative artist, check what she will do and know the next step.
