I am a firm believer that animals appreciate music. I remember when we had Smokey before we lost her in July 2022, certain songs we would put on, she would take notice and her ears would move to show she was listening to the music.
Our neighbours have a cat who likes to come and chill in our house sometimes and we have noticed he also shows interest when certain songs come on.

How can they appreciate what they do not understand? The fact that they hear the sound does not mean they understand what is going on. They hear it, but they do not understand. So they cannot appreciate it.
